President Ray Fast welcomed everyone to the meeting and said that we seemed to have new members at
every meeting and he welcomed this month Ian Thompson, Jacquie Neave and Maia Kennedy and also our
guest Chris Semenick.
Ray then introduced Tricia Nicol and Carol Scott who were profiling the Wine & Appies group at this month’s
Gathering. Tricia spoke of how the wine & appies group functioned and of the outside tours they had done
since the group had been formed. Tricia also said that she and Carol would be standing down as
Coordinators of the group in June, and she asked everyone to give serious consideration to taking on this
position saying that without Coordinators groups cannot continue. Tricia thanked Dave for running the slide
show while they spoke.
Ray reminded the members that new groups continued to be formed or resurrected and that their success
depended on having Coordinators. He said anyone who had an idea for a group could approach the
Management Committee. Ray mentioned that this year the Snowshoeing group had been started and also
the Book Club had been reformed as “Random Reads”.
Ray said that a member Heather Crites was interested in organising a group to go to Duncan on 16th February
to the ‘Blues Down Island at the Cowichan Cultural Centre. If anyone is interested they can contact the
Club’s Secretary, Tricia Nicol and she will pass their email address to Heather.
Katie then introduced this month’s speaker, welcoming Kate Ramsey, Executive Director of the Comox Valley
Youth Music Centre. Kate said that the Comox Valley Youth Centre was soon to celebrate 50 years. She
spoke of their need to fundraise and described the various musical events they were holding over the next
few months. She answered questions about their summer camp. Kate said that although most of the
attendees were from BC they did take students from abroad as well.
Katie thanked Kate for her presentation and gave her a card of the Glacier as a token of our appreciation.
Ray then drew for the door prize which was kindly donated by Kate Ramsey for their next musical event, this
month it was won by Dail McIsaac home just in time to win commented Ray.
Ray thanked everyone for coming and wished them a safe journey home.
