In spite of our rainy weather, there were 48 attendees at today's meeting, 3 of them guests, and 2 of whom are prospective new members. President Ray Fast opened the meeting and encouraged members to take Glacier Probus Club rack cards and pass them on to potential new members. He also mentioned the Summer Picnic this year will be on July 7th at the country home property of Katie and Barry Hubberstey.
Our speakers were Pat McKenna and Tom Beshr, introduced by Vice President Katie Hubberstey. Both Pat and Tom are area executives with Habitat for Humanity. They had fascinating presentation video and graphics as they talked about the affiliates in Courtenay and in Campbell River and their plans for the immediate future for new housing availability. It was stressed that Habitat does NOT give people homes, they sell people homes at an affordable cost, and Habitat is the only low income housing in Canada that is built by and sold to new homeowners (rather than low income rental units). There was an extensive Q&A period after the presentation, with a lot of interest by the members present.
In addition, Evelyn Rawcliffe introduced the new book club group called Random Readers.
