My mother was a Scot and Hogmanay was a big new years celebration in our house. As for all things Scottish there are rules and superstitions: the house had to be spotlessly clean, the laundry ironed and put away, everyone's shoes shinned and the bills paid so the New Year could be welcomed in and our household would have good luck for the year to come.
Every adult that crossed our threshold for the next 2 days was offered a wee dram of whiskey which was tossed back with a Gaelic toast. I can say the toast but I have no idea how to spell it so in its place I will wish all of you good health and contentment in the year to come, should you drop by there is a wee dram waiting for you.
Thank you for enriching my life in PROBUS.
