Snowshoeing Group
Snowshoeing is one of Canada's fastest growing sports, and nowhere is it better than in the Comox Valley!
Today’s snowshoes are easily manoeuvrable, lightweight and have crampons (pointy grips on the bottom to climb up or down hills), making it a simple winter sport for active seniors seeking a fresh air activity or looking for a good cardio workout. Wander trails at a relaxed pace, pick out wildlife tracks in the snow or admire huge old-growth trees while crunching along a well-marked snowshoe loop or moving through fresh powder.
This group is aimed toward those of us who have snowshoeing experience and those of us who are willing to try something new. When snow and weather are favourable we usually get out on the snow about once a week. Coming events will be posted in the club calendar. Detailed information will also be sent by email to all members of the group. If you would like to receive information about future events please sign up to the Snowshoeing Group at Activity Groups Signup
It can be difficult to judge how challenging a snowshoe trip will be just from distance and elevation. The links below may help. They lead to details of some of the trips that the Snowshoeing Group has completed. Click on a trip that you are familiar with, and note at the bottom of the map frame that you can toggle between miles and kilometres. Click on Menu at the top right corner of the map and then click on Hills. In the lower left of the next window click on Route Profile Tool. This will give you lots of information to help you visualise the trip and to compare with details of up coming trips. Of course snow conditions on the trail will have a big impact on the effort required. Routes will be added to this list as we complete more trips.
