My goodness, how strange it feels to be recording a new outing on Activity News! Strange but, oh, so GOOD!
Our Group had perfect weather for exploring the Little River Ferry area today and we took full advantage, strolling along our route and oohing/aahing over every sighting and bird call. Bliss. There was, of course, the usual irritation of hearing a bird, but not being able to detect it through the denseness of late spring growth. It helps at such times to have people to chat with, defusing the frustration. See...bliss!
Sighted during our walkabout were: Red-winged Blackbirds (plentiful), Bald Eagles, gulls, Mallards, Great Blue Herons, American Robins, White-crowned Sparrows, Song Sparrows, European Starlings, Spotted Towhees, Purple Martins, Violet-Green Swallows, Barn Swallows, Brewer's Blackbirds, Trumpeter Swans, Killdeer, Finches and, of special note... American Goldfinches, a Western Tanager and a Semipalmated Plover. The last was only noted when photos were downloaded on my computer. Oh...and at the last, we saw a Cabbage White butterfly at rest, so I've included a photo of that.
I have included a few photos from a walkabout a week ago to provide a look at birds seen then and now, as I wasn't able to obtain photos of them today. Thank you, Ian Thompson, for contributing to the photo selection.
