The hiking group opted to celebrate part of Canada Day with an early morning hike around the Trent River and marsh loop. The small group of 6 hikers was expecting an easy 13.5 km loop (the hike was billed as a 1 out of 5 stars in terms of difficulty) but as can be expected at times the trail turned out to be more challenging than predicted. The first sign of trouble was a KEEP OUT sign suspended across the trail. Logging activities ahead turned the the narrow trail into an obstacle course. There were no crews or equipment present and nobody was in favor of turning back, so we navigated our way across the clear cut to find the connecting trail on the other side. Thanks to some trusty navigation aids we were able to safely find our way across where we then enjoyed a well deserved rest along the creek and a quick stop at the Marsh before completing the hike. With much joking about the difficulty rating (and how much harder a 2 out of 5 might be) the group was able to finish the hike about an hour later than predicted, but still early enough to allow people to head off to enjoy the afternoon Canada Day celebrations.
