Glacier Probus Club Monthly Gathering 6 September 2018
President Tony Nicol welcomed everyone to the start of our 6th year as a Probus Club. He said that all the Activity Groups had been well represented with tables to answer questions and welcome new attendees. With about 90 members plus 8 guests present it was a great attendance for the club. Tony welcomed new members Ranan Garfinkkle, Dorothy and John McGinn, Richard Roberts and Ingrid Rumstay. He also welcomed guests Joy Kajiwara, Cindy & Bill Seymour, Sandra Redan, Pat Roberts, Glynis & Bill Schoenfeld and Maureen Zitelmann. Tony said the Golf Group were having their year end tournament and BBQ at Mulligans on Wednesday the 12th at 2:30. Anyone wanting to play should contact Ken by Friday evening. Tony also said that at this meeting the tickets for the annual Christmas Dinner & Dance were available for sale. They would also be available at the October and November meetings and could also be ordered online. He said there were only 80 tickets available so encouraged everyone to get their tickets early. Tony introduced Keith McGregor a Director with Probus Canada representing all the clubs on the Island. Keith spoke in general about Probus Canada and their new website. He congratulated Glacier Probus Club on five great years and their increasing membership and level of activities. He then presented Tony with a Certificate of Recognition to the club on their 5-year anniversary. Tony then introduced Dr. Reg Mitchell and said those who had heard him speak in April of last year will remember that he addressed the subject of: “Better Living through Chemistry”: Removing Wrinkles, Adding Hair and Muscle, and the effects of some of the chemicals we happily use to enhance our bodies. His presentation was highly entertaining and as a result of several requests he has agreed to return. His presentation this time is titled: “21st Century snake oils”. Reg lived up to expectations with an amusing and informative presentation after which he answered numerous questions from the members. Tony thanked Reg for his presentation. Tony then asked Nancy to do the draw for this month’s $25 gift vouchers, the winners were Bruce Fraser and Dorothy Walker.
Tony thanked everyone for coming and said that he looked forward to seeing them at next month’s meeting.
