Interested participants for a projected hike gather at a carpooling location which is announced along with the hike details. Look for fellow hikers standing in a group, waiting for the departure time. We carpool as much as possible and are going to try out an amended schedule of payment: would carpoolers please pay the driver $2/person for hikes within the Comox Valley, $5/person for Mt Washington, Mt Becher and similar distances, $7 for drives up to and around Campbell River and $10/person for trips down to Nanaimo. Rates beyond that to be set when needed.
Our hikes tend to be at least 3 hours in length. During the warmer months, we try to get in as many hill/mountain hikes as possible while during the winter, we just try to get our exercise by the length of the trail taken. Our default hiking day is Friday, but when the weather dictates, we will be offering the hike on an alternate day. This tends to give people who can't join in on a Friday hike the chance to catch the hike when on a different day. When the weather systems are unsettled, it isn't always possible to give a lot of forewarning about an upcoming hike and so we ask for your patience. Any member who wants to get out for some exercise on a non-hiking day....feel free to send out an email a few days ahead of time saying when and where and you are likely to find someone wanting to join in!
If you have any questions or comments, or would like the list of current hiking members, use the Contact form at the bottom of this section.
Some hikers have expressed an interest in a rating system for our hikes. A preliminary one is provided here, based on a grading of 1-5 (easy to hard, with 1 being a 3-hour hike over mainly flat terrain ). At the moment, this system is aimed at novice hikers, in order to give them some idea as to the suitability of joining in on any one excursion. It would be appreciated if people would give their opinion of how THEY would grade the hike upon completing a circuit, so that the grading will eventually reflect the average hiker's ability.
A final note: if the weather has deteriorated, we suggest checking your email early on a hiking day to see if the hike has been called off or postponed.
