For more than 30 years, members of the CVNS birding group have headed out on the first Sunday in May to count birds. Using the same areas as the Christmas Bird Count, we go into defined areas and count the birds we see or hear. There are usually some remaining winter birds and some early spring arrivals, as well as our resident birds. This is an exciting time for birders and the weather is a bonus compared with the Christmas Bird Count.
If you would like to join us and have not already signed up, please email Carol at (carolalain@shaw.ca) or phone her (250-331-0511). Newcomers are especially welcome. A team leader will contact you several days before the count to give you the team's meeting place, time to arrive and other information.
The count ends about 4:00 PM, after which we head to the Evergreen Lounge in the Filberg Centre for a potluck supper and tally-up. For the pot luck, we bring our own plate, cup and cutlery and a potluck contribution. Tea and coffee are on the house.
