A great day for a bird outing yesterday - nice, sunny and warm, with flat waters offshore. We were happy to see a good variety of birdlife represented both on the water and off. Our destination was the Royston Seaside Trail with the adjoining shoreline off Hilton Rd. In our sights were the usual gulls, crows/ravens, Mallards...oh, and our visiting Snowbirds(!). Also seen were Killdeer, Purple Martins, female Common and Hooded Mergansers, Horned Grebes in breeding plumage, Great Blue Herons, American Wigeons, Yellowlegs, Bonaparte's Gull, Goldeneyes, Bufflehead, Spotted Towhee, Golden-crowned Sparrows, Song Sparrows, Starlings, Pine Siskin and Violet-green Swallows. We spotted an eagle's nest, but nary an eagle was seen.
Thanks, Ian T. (first three) and Dawn M., for contributing the photos seen below. Again, most birds were in the distance, so quality isn't the best.
