The group selected our Little River Ferry loop for today's outing since its diversity in habitat is a good choice when tide levels are relatively high along the shoreline. As the photos show, we encountered various landscapes that attract different species, thus giving us a chance at seeing a variety of birdlife. Most birds offshore were in the distance so we were identifying by body colouration and patterns distinct to particular species that can be detected at distance.
Today, we encountered 25 species: Golden-crowned Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wren, Spotted Towhee, House Finches, Dark-eyed Juncos, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, American Crows, Common Raven, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Green-winged Teals, gulls, Buffleheads, Horned Grebes, Red-necked Grebes, Red-breasted Mergansers, Long-tailed Ducks, Surf Scoters, White-Winged Scoters, Pelagic Cormorant, Common Loons, Killdeer.
