On a sunny Friday morning, the bird group headed to Royston to roam around Marine Drive and the Seaside trail/Hulks found off the end of Hilton Rd. Despite cold feet and hands, the group remained enthusiastic over each bird noted, assisted by Bill’s Scope and his expertise. The bird list grew quite satisfactorily to 32 species:
gulls, Northwestern Crows, Song Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Golden-crowned Sparrows, Fox Sparrow, Bald Eagles, Northern Harrier, Red-winged Blackbird, Eurasian Doves, European Starlings, Dark-eyed Juncos, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Finch, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Spotted Towhees, Belted Kingfisher, Common Goldeneyes, White-winged Scoters, Surf Scoters, Red-necked Grebes, Horned Grebes, Double-crested Cormorants, Northern Pintails, Common Mergansers, Hooded Mergansers, Greater Scaups, Common Loons, Great Blue Herons, Dunlins, Killdeer and Trumpeter Swan (in flight).
