With less than 18 hours notice and dodgy road conditions we managed to get together for a very local snowshoe outing on Christmas Day. We made our way through Sandwick and Muir/McLauchlin Parks, the Courtenay Cemetary, Vanier Forest, Vanier sports field and the Exhibition Grounds to the Tsolum River trails. This urban route only required 2 road crossings each way. Early on we discovered that a trail that was easy to walk a few months ago was almost impassable due to bushes bent into our path from the weight of the snow. At times we were on our hands and knees. The rest of our route was much easier, as was our return trip using a different trail back. We all agreed that this needs to become an annual tradition.
