Cathy led us on an unfamiliar route along a very familiar river. We started at Puntledge Park in Courtenay. We hiked upstream to the hatchery to see millions of tiny chum in a huge tank, apparently soon to be released into the river. From there we ventured farther upstream along trails that were at times easy, occasionally very steep or precariously hugging the top edge of a high river bank, or barely visible among the shrubs and thorns. So an excellent exploratory! The river and wildflower meadows were very scenic.
