Eager to get more hiking in before the hot weather returns, two groups did some island hopping.
Our hike on Hornby Island made use of the bus service so that we could start our hike at the north end of the Mount Geoffrey trail system. This allowed us to take in the amazing views along Cliff Trail, visit the summit, see different views along Outer Ridge Trail, visit Ford Cove and finish our hike on the seaside trail back to the ferry.
Getting to Hornby Island in the first place was more challenging than usual. Due to over capacity loads on both sides, the Hornby ferry was shuttling off schedule. In spite of saving a parking space near the terminal for our second car full, they were not able to get to the waiting ferry in time to walk aboard. Those of us who got to Hornby first were distracted by a fishing boat that was grounded on Shingle Spit and the activities of the coast guard crew and their precautionary oil boom deployment.
In spite of our late start it was a very enjoyable hike with refreshing breezes off the ocean in the afternoon.

A good outing for the day's 'alternate group', this one taking us around the trail system in Denman Island's Boyle Point Provincial Park. Only four hikers today so it was a relaxed hike with stops for photography along the way. It was appreciated to be routed through woods most of the way, giving us shade on a hot, sunny day.
