Another exploratory hike, this time above (west of) the BC Hydro Puntledge River Trail. Parts of this area were logged this summer. The Vancouver Island Trail website suggested that loggers left their trail intact, so our planned route was mostly out and back on the VI trail. We found the condition of the VI trail ranged from very overgrown, to a scenic creekside route, to a path through a clear cut. As we gained altitude it looked like recent snow was rained on and then froze. It didn't take long for the slippery footing to get old. We turned around and found a different trail that took us back to the Puntledge for lunch. Hopefully we can return to this area to enjoy some of the scenic parts before they too are logged.
