It was time to head back up Mountain Washington to check out the latest trail conditions around the Battleship/Helen MacKenzie loop. Recent reports indicated there was still snow on large parts of the trail and the lakes were covered in snow, so with a mix sunshine and clouds in the forecast and gaiters and spikes in our backpacks we set off to explore.
The group enjoyed a wonderful 9 km hike up to the lakes and enjoyed lunch overlooking Helen MacKenzie. It was amazing to see just how quickly conditions change as the lakes are now snow free and we only encountered a few small patches of snow on the trail (no micro-spikes required). The large number of fallen trees on the trail added to the fun as it required us to either climb over (or under).
