Campbell River Lookout…..nope Mt Becher
Our list to hike Campbell River Lookout started small and after a couple cancellations it became even smaller. While confirming the participants, the idea of hiking closer to home was mentioned and checking out Mt Becher. A last minute decision the night before had the group move to Plan B (Mt Becher). Recent trip reports indicated that bugs and mud with some small snow patches were in order and the reports were accurate, although the mud was minimal. After climbing up the old ski hill we were greeted by super friendly mosquitos and even our best efforts of applying bug spray was insufficient. We realized later we were the first group on the trail that morning likely meaning we were breakfast. The summit did not disappoint with incredible 360 degree views. The trip came in at just over 12 km with 700 m of elevation gain. Thankfully the bugs were not an issue on the way down either due to the heat, a bit more wind or them being full.
