October 19th was a busy day for the hiking group, with a choice between two hikes appreciated by those with different ideas of what constitutes a great outing.
Hike #1 was a climb up Mt Becher. With the glorious weather this month has brought, it was decided to slip this hike in before snow covers the trail. And what a lovely day it was for the six climbers - note the short sleeves and cloudless skies! It is reported that the Forbidden Plateau Lodge foundation has now disappeared, as have the chairs from the chair-lift. Still some work to be done to completely clean up the area, but real progress towards pristine conditions was noted. The six were impressed by a family who also reached the summit and which included children as young as six years. Wow!
Hike #2 was over the Nymph Falls to Comox Lake trail system and the six hikers on this one were quite content to traverse the nearly-flat 14-15km route, absorbing the beauty of the day. The variety in mushrooms/fungi was impressive and the brightness of the day was appreciated by all. The only negative was the startup of the warning siren at the Comox Lake BC Hydro picnic area just after we sat down for our lunch and which ended 5 minutes after we gulped down our meal and started our return trip. Hmphh.
Bill Jorgensen has sent a LINK to view the photos he took of the outing - well worth taking a few minutes to view. Thanks, Bill.
