The hiking group has another outing under its belt, having made a return visit to the Oyster River mountain-biking trail system today. We found a major work-project was taking place along the riverside by the trailhead with closures of the first two trails into the area; by climbing uphill along an access road we reached another trail which was open and off we went. It was a lovely day for hiking, so we extended the route by a km or so at the far end of the system, stopping for a lunch break at a different site along the Oyster River. If it wasn't for being visited by wasps at a few spots along the way (with three hikers ending up with stings) the day would have been perfect. The Courtenay Country Market was a good spot to recover from the outing, with most participants going for ice cream instead of coffee.
