Well, Wednesday's hike up Mt Elma qualifies as one of our most difficult outings but, wow...the views at the summit make the ascent/descent worth it! The route involves a steep 170 metre climb over one kilometre, which really gets the heart pumping. At the summit, we had a leisurely lunch while gazing over the mountain and lake vistas and checking out the campers directly below at Croteau Lake who were enjoying a swim while unaware of the onlookers above. The descent is almost as difficult as the ascent, due to the steepness factor combined with a trail full of slippery needles and other loose debris, but we were all up to the challenge and in great shape to enjoy the remainder of the hike back to the trailhead via Lake Helen-Mackenzie. A debrief was held at the Alpine Resort's Eagle View BBQ outdoor patio.
