On Wednesday, January 3rd, the hiking group was out in force (the most ever showed up with 19 participants) to celebrate the beginning of another year (and to walk off some calories!?). Our venue? - Comox's NE Woods and down through Lazo Marsh to the seashore off Curtis Rd. It was a cold outing, but since temperatures were a bit above freezing, the ground was thawing (read...muddy). That's all right - we were prepared. One big wet muddy area was negotiable due to our extreme agility (really!). Down at the seashore, we stopped for snacks/lunch and celebrated Bernie's birthday with a lit cupcake and a rendition of "Happy Birthday". On the way back, we diverted slightly to take in the Lazo Nature Sanctuary, always good for birdlife and then it was back to our NE Woods loop to continue back to our trailhead. Quality Foods seemed the best place for a debrief, what with the number of participants so we ended off our outing there.
