The Movie Group continues to be active. The Group Leader - not so much! I keep forgetting to post our outings. Since January we've seen "The Breadwinner" an animated movie set in Afghanistan, which follows a young girl's difficulties as she tries to get her father out of jail. Customs under the Taliban being what they were (are), the girl has to take on the guise of a boy in order to accomplish what she sets out to do. This movie is nominated for an Academy Award. The next movie was saw was "Bombshell - The Hedy Lamarr Story". This was fascinating, in that Hedy Lamarr was not just a movie star but also was an inventor! She invented the precursor to Bluetooth. Hard to believe, and yet, it's true! The most recent movie we saw was "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool" with a stellar performance by Annette Benning as former film star Gloria Grahame. Her romantic interest was played by Jamie Bell, in another staggering performance. The movie was primarily concerned with the final year of Grahame's life, with flashbacks to her film days and the early parts of her romance with the male lead. The next movie we'll see will be on Feb. 25 and is called "The Divine Order". It is a Swiss movie about suffragettes. Join us! Email [email protected] for more information! |
