Random Readers had a fun meeting this past Wednesday, with discussions of many interesting books. But we all felt a need for a fun uplifting book for grey rainy January days, so we chose the following:
SOURDOUGH by Robin Sloan
2017
A very fun read with lots of food for thought. (Note cute little analogy there. :D )
Lois, a software engineer at a San Francisco robotics company, codes all day and collapses at night. When her favourite sandwich shop closes, the owners leave her with the starter for their mouthwatering sourdough bread. She soon joins an upstart more secret market aiming to fuse food and technology, with a wonderful cast of characters including a herd of goats, a hidden bookstore, a cricket farm... and much more!
Great pithy descriptions, snappy dialogue, and who could not love a book which has a quirky Lois Club, jealous programmers and a fascinating maybe secretly aggressive?? sourdough starter as some of the main characters.
The next meeting of Random Readers is Wed, Feb 14. Join us for some serious fun. Chocolate may be involved.
