It seems like some of us turned in well before midnight on New Year's Eve as there was plenty of interest in snowshoeing on the first morning on 2023.
Steve Horn stepped back into his leader shoes for one group...
Eleven of us headed up to Raven Lodge for a trip around the Meadows. With a combination of Old Cabin and Crooked creek loops, we did about 5.5 km, with some decent elevation gain. After a break at the bridge (Crooked creek) we decided to do a slight offshoot from there, which took us up a steady climb to just below the road to the lodge. It was a beautiful walk through the trees, and it certainly got our heart rates up. Once we were back to the Meadows, we naturally stopped for the traditional toast to the New Year. All in all, a great start to the New Year.

The rest of us crossed Paradise Meadows and climbed up to Battleship Lake. A well packed trail followed the hiking trail route along Battleship and Helen Mackenzie lakes. For fun we took to the fresh unpacked snow for a shortcut between the lakes. The New Year was toasted in a meadow above Lake Helen Mackenzie where we were sheltered from the wind.
