Special Events hosted the Digital Scavenger Hunter on the hottest day of the summer at 35 degrees and lucked out to score our second event the Malahat Skywalk on the second hottest day of our second heat wave at 34 degrees. Not to be deterred by nature’s bounty of sunshine 15 enthusiastic probus members proceeded by airconditioned bus to the Red Lions Rampart on Maple Bay for a lovely lunch on the scenic patio overlooking the Bay. A scenic drive around Shawnigan Lake brought us to the Arbutus Forest with paths that lead us to an engineered tower of steel and massive wood beams. An easy walk up the structure and a very clear day provided magnificent views as far as Mount Baker in the USA. At the very top is a massive trampoline which should be called a Jiggly walk as you are not permitted to jump on tempting structure. You can either walk down the way you came or you can take a tube slide to the bottom. However, be warned that the the lineup for the tube slide can be as long as one hour after the wait to get a mat. Our intrepid President Sandy Dreger was the only one that chose to come down by slide. Sandy loved it and wanted to come back on a day that it may be less busy. The Skywalk was busy but not overcrowded and you can see that they are developing walking trails and features to enhance this experience in the future. It has been open only a month and the bugs are still being worked out. Lots of picnic tables and good clean restrooms if you are interested to know. A fun day had by all. Koodoos to our driver Cheryl from Ambassador Shuttle whose excellent driving skills brought us all safely home.
