Glacier Probus Club
Monthly Gathering 6th April 2017
President Katie Hubberstey welcomed everyone to the April meeting of 2017 she said she was delighted to see so many present and welcomed our newest member Genevieve Huchulak.
This week is National Volunteers week and Katie asked for a show of hands of how many present were active volunteers. There was a very large response and Kate called for a round of applause for all those who volunteer. She went on to explain that two of the Directors on the Management Committee, the Activities Director and the Special Events Director, were standing down and asked if anyone who might be interested in these positions would contact her.
Katie said Michele had asked her to let people know that there were still 4 tickets available for the Chemainus trip but that for it to be viable these tickets needed to be sold. There are still tickets available for the PRISMA concert.
This summer we are changing our annual get together from a picnic to a BBQ. It will be held in Simms Park on 5th July from 4:00 to 7:00. Tickets will still be $5.00 and will be available at the May & June meetings.
Katie introduced Keith Millard the Club’s Technology Director. Keith then played a short video about the history and different traditions of Easter.
Katie then called the Special General Meeting to order and asked Ray to join her on the podium. Katie explained that there had been a need to make some amendments to the Club’ Bylaws, mainly to bring dates into line for membership dues and the financial reports for the AGM. She asked if anyone had any questions. As there were none she asked if someone would make the motion to adopt the Bylaws as amended. Michele Morton proposed the motion which was seconded by John McIsaac and passed unanimously. Katie thanked everyone and said the new Bylaws would be posted on the website.
Katie asked Tony Nicol to introduce this month’s speaker Dr. Reg Mitchell, the subject of his presentation was ‘Better Living through Chemistry: Removing Wrinkles, Adding Hair and Muscle, Improving romance in your Life.’ It was a very interesting and amusing talk about the effects on our bodies of some of the chemicals people choose to take. Tony thanked Reg for coming all the way from Victoria to speak to us.
Nancy drew the tickets for the door prizes the winners of which were: Tess Boutillier-Wilson and Steve Latta.
Katie thanked everyone for coming and wished them a safe journey home.
