President Michele Morton opened the meeting and welcomed all those present. Michele said she been away for a couple of month’s enjoying a trip to Vietnam. Michele announced that the Mystery Tour was a go as they already had sufficient numbers to fill the small bus and if more signed up they could switch to the larger bus. She said the club was in a healthy financial position and also said that tickets were available, at a cost of $5.00, for the Summer Picnic on 2nd July. Michele said that the club had already booked a place for the Christmas Party on 16th December and that this year it would be an evening dinner event.
Michele introduced Tony Nicol, the Joint Coordinator of the Walking Group. Tony spoke about the way the group was organised and showed some slides from various walks taken over the last few months. He encouraged more people to come out and walk with the group.
Michele did the draw for the door prize which was kindly donated by Donna Young and won by Steve Horn.
Vice President John McIsaac then introduced our speaker Jane Murphy, President & CEO of St Joseph’s Hospital. Jane gave a most interesting and informative talk about the new hospital and the time frame for its completion and occupation. She then went on to discuss the role of St Joe’s after the new hospital started its services. She explained various types of programs and services the Hospital Foundation were looking at developing to continue to service the needs of the Valley. There were a number of interesting and wide ranging questions which Jane answered in some detail.
John thanked Jane for her talk and presented her with a print of the Comox Glacier from the Glacier Probus Club.
Michele thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting.
