Glacier Probus Club
Monthly meeting – 6th November 2014
President Michele Morton opened the meeting and welcomed members, new members, and visitors. Michele said that Christmas Party tickets were on sale and would be available on line till the end of the month. Michele said that the Chemainus Dinner Theatre outing was fully booked and 2 buses were going taking 33 people.
Michele then introduced Sharon Withey, the coordinator of the Hiking group, who talked about the group and how they were looking for more help and welcomed more participation from members both as hikers and with suggestions of possible hikes.
The draw was made for the door prize, this month it was donated by Katie Hubberstey and was won by Darlene Young.
Michele then introduced Maureen Irving, the National President of PROBUS Canada and John Howarth, the Vancouver Island Director. Both spoke to our members. Maureen spoke of how PROBUS was first started and its rapid and continued growth across Canada.
Michele then asked Dave Shewchuk to introduce Ian Parsons, this month’s speaker. Ian spoke of his time in the RCMP and of the changes the RCMP had faced over the decades and some of the difficulties it faces in the coming years. Ian also spoke of his book “No Easy Ride”.
Michele thanked Ian for his talk and presented him with a print of the Comox Glacier she then thanked everyone for coming and closed the meeting.
