Monthly Gathering
7th March 2019
President Tony Nicol welcomed everyone to the March Monthly Gathering and thanked them for coming. He said particularly the large number of new members and guests.
Tony said it was a little early to celebrate Paddy’s day but as could be seen by all the green that was what we were doing. He went on to show 2 short videos of Irish humor and then a video Katie had sent him of “Bowling Bloopers” in honour of the very successful Bowling night Katie had organised last Saturday night.
Tony then went on to welcome new members: Maureen Wagner, Peter Mitchell and Kathy Dawson.
Also guests: Pat & Giorgio Grappolini, Bruce & Loraine Hartley, Ken & Larraine Kemper, Gerry & Marcia Allardice, Frank & Gail Wilms, Harriet Hudgin, Sylvia Countryman, and Lawrence Stern
He then spoke of the annual Special Events “PRISMA Cruise” which Michele Morton was once again organizing. The date of this event is the 29th June. Details will be available very soon on the website with a sign-up page.
Tony then introduced Anne Zanbilowicz who has offered to hold a 4 week Introductory course in Tai Chi. Anne said anyone interested in signing up for this should contact her. Tony said the details for both events would be sent out to the membership by email.
Members Steve Hill and Bill Boham then spoke to different projects.
Tony then handed over to Vice President Nancy Shaver-LeForte who introduced this month’s speaker Jessica Torode-Scott who’s topic was “The Whales in Our Waters: Protecting B.C.’s Iconic Cetaceans through Research, Conservation, and Citizen Science”. After a very interesting presentation Jessica answered a number of questions from the members. Nancy thanked Jessica for her presentation.
Tony then invited Nancy Watkins to come up and do the monthly draw. The winners were Michele Hind and Peter Mitchell.
Tony thanked everyone for coming and said he hoped to see such a large gathering again in April.
