Monthly Gathering
1st March 2018
President Katie Hubbertsey welcomed everyone to the first Monthly Gathering of 2018 and said she was delighted to see so many members present. The theme of this month’s Gathering was Green & Irish in honour of St Paddy’s day.
Katie introduced new member Pattie Spearman also welcomed guest Thea Senior. Katie said we had one other new member who could not be at the meeting-Marilyn Akerman who is our 200th member.
The Management is still looking for members to join the Committee for the coming year and Katie encouraged members to give this some thought.
There is to be a Meet & Greet for new members on the 29th March and Katie said they would receive an email invite in the next week or so. The annual Program Coordinator’s lunch to show the club’s appreciation for all the work the coordinators continue to do is to be held on the 26th April further details will be sent out by the Activities Director nearer the time.
The Management Committee is also planning another Bowling evening for the 6th April details and a sign-up sheet can be found on the Website under the ‘more’ button.
Katie reminded the members that Michele Morton is organising the Symphony PRISMA Cruise again this year. All the information can also be found on the Website together with a form for an ‘Expression of Interest’. This must be submitted by the end of March.
Katie then introduced Victor Owen who is the new coordinator of the Genealogy group who gave an interesting description of why we should all be interested in Genealogy and encouraged members to join the group and see how it is all done.
Tony then introduced Tim Ennis a conservation biologist with over 20 years of experience working to protect and restore biodiversity in BC. Tim spoke to us about the need for conservation and how much of the eco system in the Valley was being lost. Tim answered a number of questions and left us all with something to think about in regard to our own area.
Tony thanked Tim for his excellent presentation.
Nancy did the draw for this month’s gift certificates which were won by Jim Crozier and Sharon O’Hara..
Katie thanked everyone for coming and wished then a safe journey home.
