President Ray Fast welcomed everyone to the meeting and said we had two guests who had come to look the club over. Ray then introduced Activities Director Dawn Moore. Dawn gave out the ‘Coordinator’ hangers to the new Coordinators:
Gary Lucas – Cycling; Dave Scott – Golf; Shelly Combs - Strollers and John McIsaac – Issues & Topics
Ray then asked Vice President Katie Hubberstey to introduce this month’s speaker. Katie welcomed and introduced Roger Griffith. Katie in her introduction said that Roger lived in Qualicum Beach and had been joined today by Ed, one of the other “Five Old Mountaineer Men”. She said Roger had over the years been both a guide and a mountaineer, he and four others had started their adventures in 2012 since when it had become an annual event. Roger spoke with humour and showed slides and videos of the four hikes they had done in the last few years. Each of the hikes had been in the BC Wilderness, and they fly in by helicopter, establish a camp and do different daily hikes over four or five days before flying out. Roger spoke and answered questions about the logistics of their adventures and some of the highlights including seeing grizzly bears, wolves and caribou.
Katie thanked Roger for his presentation and gave him a copy of the Glacier Print.
Ray then introduced Steve Ray one of our members who presented the details of an idea he had of a Probus group going to a matinee of Cirque de Soleil in Vancouver. Steve will do a description of the possible trip with options of transport, dates and prices.
Ray then drew for the door prize which this month were donated by Tricia Nicol and won by Carol Scott. Ray reminded everyone that the tickets for the Christmas party were on sale at the meetings and could also be booked online.
Ray thanked everyone for coming and wished then a safe journey home.
