Monthly Gathering
5th April 2018
President Katie Hubbertsey welcomed everyone and particularly the new members: Skip Best, Pat MacQuarrie, Anne Reinhardt, Marilyn Ackerman, Donna Dukart and Tom Moffat. Also a guest Wendy Prothero.
Katie said that would be an election for members of the Management Committee at the AGM in June. She said a number of members had come forward to offer their services on the Management Committee. If there is anyone who would like to be considered for a position or nominate a member they should forward the names to Ray Fast as the Chairman of the Nominating Committee, the deadline for nominations is 24th May.
The Meet & Greet for new members is now on the 16th April. The annual Program Coordinator’s lunch to show the club’s appreciation for all the work the coordinators continue to do is to be held on the 26th April further details will be sent out by the Activities Director nearer the time.
The following Special events have been organised but are now closed for entry:
Bowling on 6th April with 18 members attending
PRISMA ON 23RD June with 30 members attending.
The annual Picnic will be a BBQ hosted by the Management Committee on 5th July. Tickets at a cost of $5.00 will be available at the Monthly Gatherings in May and June and can also be requested online.
Katie then introduced the first of the day’s speakers Ray Seibert from Orca who spoke about the ‘Singers and Friends’ Group which is open to members of all the PROBUS groups in the Valley. After her presentation she and 2 other members of the group sang several songs.
The second speaker was Paul Atterton from Strathcona PROBUS Club who spoke about a ‘Grand Road Tour’ they are organising which is also open to members of all the Valley’s PROBUS Clubs. The first organisational meetings will be held in the Quality Foods Room in Driftwood Mall at 12 noon on the 11th April. Paul said his phone number for interested participants was 778 992 0628.
Tony then introduced the key notes speakers for the afternoon Debra Griffiths and Catherine Siba from the Courtenay Museum who spoke about and showed slides from the book they had co-authored “WATERSHED MOMENTS: A Pictorial History of Courtenay and District”. Debra and Catherine gave an informative and humorous presentation which was enjoyed by all. Tony thanked them for their chat and slide show.
The door prizes this month were won by Bruce Fraser and Kathy Slater
Katie thanked everyone for coming and wished then a safe journey home.
