President Michele Morton opened the meeting and welcomed all those present. Michele announced that
the Mystery Tour was a go as they already had sufficient numbers to fill the small bus and if more signed up
they could switch to the larger bus. She said the club was in a healthy financial position.
She said that tickets were available, at a cost of $5.00, for the Summer Picnic on 2nd July. Michele said that
the club had already booked a venue for the Christmas Party on 16th December and that this year it would be
an evening dinner event. Michele also spoke of the PRISMA Symphony Cruise and said she still had tickets
and anyone interested should contact her.
Michele introduced Katie Hubberstey, the Activities Director. Katie explained that the Management
Committee was trying to encourage the development of new groups but said that although there had been
some interest shown in a Bowling and a Games group no one had come forward to lead. Katie was therefore
proposing that these would be held on a one off basis and that a sign-up sheet would be available on the
website. Katie said she would start by organising a Bowling event in the Fall and hoped people would come
forward to organise a Trivia night or any other game that they were interested in.
Michele did the draw for the door prize which was won by Lynn Wickham. Michele thanked those members
who had donated door prizes. Michele then asked Vice President John McIsaac to introduce our speaker Martha Crawford Cantarini also known as ‘The Fall Girl'. Martha had been a stunt woman for many films in the ‘50’s. During this time she won “The Golden Boot” (the Oscar of Western films) for her stunt work in “The Big Country” when she doubled for both Jean Simmons and Carol Baker. Martha gave us an interesting and humorous glimpse into life as a stunt woman. When asked if she had met Elvis Presley she said she had worked on his first film and described him as ‘a love’.
John thanked Martha for her talk and presented her with a gift from the Glacier Probus Club.
Michele thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting.
