President Ray Fast welcomed everyone to the meeting. He spoke about the need for volunteers to step forward for both the Management Committee and as Coordinators of the Activity Groups. He said that the AGM would be in June and he knew we were looking for at least 2 new committee members. He said that Dawn Moore, the Activity Director was organising an Activity Coordinators meeting on the 26th April and he asked Coordinators to confirm with her if they were coming and also he asked them to confirm with Dawn if they were willing to continue as Coordinators for another year.
Ray then introduced Dawn who said that she was happy to announce that Daryl Dancer had agreed to be the Coordinator of the Birding Group but that as she worked away for a good part of the summer there was a need to have another volunteer as a Co-Coordinator. Dawn also said that after two years Tricia and Carol were stepping down as Coordinators of the Wine & Appies group. She said it was a very popular group and she hoped one or two people would agree to act as Coordinators as otherwise the group would fold.
Ray then introduced Dave Scott and Tony Nicol who were profiling the Golf Group at this month's gathering. Dave spoke amusingly of the merits and advantages of the golf group both as far as enjoying the outdoors and the 'patio' afterwards.
Ray then introduced John McIsaac, Past Vice President, who said that this month's speaker Commissioner Frank Francis had had to cancel due to recent bereavements. John then introduced Odette Wilson, Communications Advisor for the BC Treaty Commission who had agreed to speak in Frank's absence. Odette spoke about the complex history of the Treaty Negotiations and the court cases that had made the Government accept the rights of First Nations to have Treaties. She also described the format used for Treaty Negotiations and the role of the BC Treaty Commission. After her talk Odette answered a number of questions from the audience. Ray thanked her for her presentation and presented her with a print of the Comox Glacier.
Ray then drew for the door prizes which were kindly donated by Sue Curran.
Ray thanked everyone for coming and wished them a safe journey home.
