Glacier Probus Club
Monthly Gathering
4 January 2018
President Katie Hubbertsey welcomed everyone to the first Monthly Gathering of 2018 and said she was delighted to see so many members present. Katie spoke of the Club’s annual Christmas Dinner & Dance and thanked everyone who had made it such a great success. She said the Management Committee had devised a survey which was handed out to those members present for their opinion as to what the members wanted from this event. She said the survey was also available online.
Katie introduced new member Alan Brown and said unfortunately his wife Elaine was unable to attend. She also welcomed guests Angie Leberge and Anne Carney.
Katie said we were half way through the current year and that she wanted to introduce and thank both the members of the Management Committee and the Activity Group Coordinators.
Katie went on to speak of the idea Tony had mentioned at the November monthly gathering where members could have a greater participation in the club by speaking on a subject they were passionate about whether it be a hobby, an interest, or a volunteer position. She said if anyone wanted to take this opportunity they could speak to Tony or any member of the Management Committee.
Katie said that the snowshoeing group led by Steve Horn and Bill Boham were introducing a second group for beginners to this sport. She said that Brad Porteous was floating the idea of a cross country skiing group and would be looking to see what interest there was in such a group. She also mentioned that the Probus Singers group had an event planned for later this month.
Katie said the Management Committee was also planning another Bowling evening for March.
Tony was then asked to introduce this month’s speaker retired Major Dale Erhart, a pilot for 35 years in the Air Force, Air Canada, and VVIP Executive jet. He became an Accident Investigator and now a professional Speaker on Cruise ships, Business groups etc. Has restored and flown one of 6 WW1 replica biplanes over Vimy in France for the 100th Anniversary celebrations and has travelled over Canada in tribute to the Canadian heroes of the Great War.
Dale in finishing his presentation said if anyone wanted more information they could go to the website at ‘vimyflight.ca’
Tony thanked Dale for his excellent presentation and gave him an honorarium.
Ron did the draw for this month’s gift certificates which were won by Robin Pearson, Gary Lucas and Patty Tait.
Katie thanked everyone for coming and wished then a safe journey home.
