This monthly meeting began with coffee and a social, that was well received by members.
Michele Morton:
-invites any comments or suggestions about organization of future meetings, and also invites members to put forward ideas they may have for interesting guest speakers.
- Christmas Party tickets are on sale this month and will also be available at Novembers meeting. Alternatively, these tickets can be reserved on line.
-a few seats still available for the Chemainus Dinner Theatre. The 24 seater bus was full and we are well on the way to being able to book the smaller bus.
Katie Hubberstey reported on the successful launch of the NEW Financial Group.
Vicki Mathews profiled the renewed Movies Group and its success. The group attends the cinema every 2 weeks, the films being shown are listed on the web site and members vote for which movie they want to see. Interested members sign up for the Movie and the dinner and seats are pre-booked at restaurants reasonably local to the cinema. Members could either sign up for the group or if they saw a Movie that appealed, sign up for a particular night.
Thank you to Kathy Malden for donating the door prizes for this month. They were won by Gil Moore, Bev Haist and Jeannie Hall.
We had 2 speakers this month.
1) The first was Bob Mortimer from the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Governance Review Task Force who spoke briefly about the structure of local government in the Valley and how the Chamber was appealing for support of residents to sign a petition for an independent study of the structure of the Governance of the Comox Valley.
2) Tony Reynolds who spoke about L’Arche, the background and history of the organisation. Tony also showed a short video of some of the work and interests of the group here in the Valley. He then spoke about their new “I Belong” campaign which is seeking to raise funds for L’Arche to provide a new multi-purpose facility for disabled people in the Valley.
I for one am proud that our community supports this fantastic service. - Katie
John presented Tony with a contribution from the Club.
Next months speaker will be Ian Parsons, who retired from the RCMP after 33 years’ service and who has written of his experiences in a book entitled “No Easy Ride”
