Our speakers were Pat McKenna and Tom Beshr, introduced by Vice President Katie Hubberstey. Both Pat and Tom are area executives with Habitat for Humanity, Pat was previously a senior executive with a major Canadian retailer, and they both bring a wealth of experience and vision to Habitat for Humanity on Vancouver Island.
They had a fascinating presentation video and graphics as they talked about the affiliates in Courtenay and in Campbell River and their plans for the immediate future for new housing availability. It was stressed that Habitat does NOT give people homes, they sell people homes at an affordable cost, and Habitat is the only low income housing in Canada that is built by and sold to new homeowners (rather than low income rental units).
There was an extensive Q&A period after the presentation, with a lot of interest by the members present.
